Quit Smoking Tips

As many people who have done so will tell you, quitting smoking is a very difficult things to do, and it is seldom something that is a quick and easy process.  Many people will struggle with this addiction and many people will give up in despair, but the truth is, quitting smoking is entirely possible.  If you are in a position where you want to quit smoking, you need to realize first that it is not easy, and second that that doesn't mean that you can't do it!  Take a look at a few quit smoking tips below and see what you can do to get started.

1.Think about when and where you smoke.
Many people have situations or places where they tend to smoke.  Is it possible to avoid those places or to bring something else to do?  For instance, if you find that you often go out during your lunch break, why not stay in the cafeteria?  Avoid going to a place where you will see others smoking if at all possible, and try to switch your habits around at least a little to make sure that your are not facing strong and constant reminders.

2.Let people know what you are doing.
Tell your friends and your family that you are going to try to quit smoking.  Many people, when the nicotine leaves their system and they start to go through withdrawal, will feel snappish and irritable, and if your friends and loved ones are aware of what is going on, they can help keep you distracted and at the very least, they will understand why you might be a little more tense than usual.

3.Find substitutions
Of course, you will find that there are many things which will let you substitute the nicotine to your system, including things like the patch and the nicotine gum, but you should also find a way to fill up the time that you would usually spend smoking.  Many people try to substitute another hobby or habit in, like reaching for a crossword puzzle to distract them, or keeping a steady supply of chewing gum on hand.

4.Eat good meals.
You'll find that your smoking habit helped both keep your blood sugar steady and suppressed your appetite.  You'll find that once you quit smoking that the additional hunger pains and the process of your body learning to adjust to the problem of blood sugar will make you testy and irritable.  Keep good snacks near you, and eat plenty of fruit and vegetables to keep the worst of the blood sugar swings at bay.

5.Be aware of what a single cigarette means.
Essentially, when you smoke a cigarette after you quit, be aware that you will be going through withdrawal again.  If you have been going for a while without a cigarette, you can see that there is a good reason not to start again.  However, if you do end up smoking a cigarette, remember that your success depends on being able to go back to not smoking.  Stick to your guns and don't let a single lapse throw you off track!

By finding smoking techniques that will work for you, you will be able to quit smoking entirely.  Take some time to think about your smoking habits and what you can do to end them for good!
